How to get rid of rust from nuts and bolts

As many tradies will know, rusted nuts and bolts can be a real pain. And once that rust starts to spread, it’s very hard to keep it under control. But did you know you can easily get rid of rust and stop those nuts and bolts from sticking together?

WD-40 Multi-Use product is something you’re probably familiar with. In fact, you’re probably using it already to lubricate tools and get rid of squeaky hinges. And while it isn’t a specialist rust remover, it can offer temporary rust protection for your nuts and bolts.

Plus, it can loosen and remove excessive surface rust. Simply aim the nozzle and spray directly onto the rusted area, wait a couple of minutes and scrub the surface with an abrasive sponge for small jobs or a wire brush for slightly rustier surfaces. The best thing about using WD-40 to get rid of rust is that it will continue to displace moisture, protecting your nuts and bolts from further corrosion. Now there’s no need to spend hundreds of dollars replacing them.

Need something stronger to really get deep into the crevices? Try the WD-40 Specialist Fast Release Penetrant Spray. Using the same steps above, the penetrant can quickly help to get rid of excessive rust from nuts, bolts, threads, locks and chains.
