The piercing sound of squeaky door hinges, creaking, every time somebody walks in and out of a room is infuriating. To me, it makes me feel like I’m in a creepy horror movie, especially when the doors are squeaking in the middle of the night! The high-pitched crying sound echoes around your house, how are you supposed to get any peace?
There are many reasons why you could have a squeaky door hinge. Friction in the hinge can be caused by a build-up of rust, dust, and debris, as well as a lack of lubrication. But don’t worry, WD-40 is here to help you, with this handy step-by-step guide on how to fix a squeaky door!
Firstly, it’s important to make sure no dust and muck have built up on your door hinges. Take a clean cloth and give the hinges a wipe-down to ensure they’re dirt-free when it comes to applying the product. You may want to wet your cloth when wiping down the hinges, it’s entirely up to you. However, make sure to dry the hinge afterward with a kitchen towel.
Next, take a paper towel and fold it in half. Place this underneath the hinge and hold it there. This will save any mess by catching any excess WD-40 product that may trickle down the door. Then, take your trusty can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product and use the handy Smart Straw to spray directly on the hinge. Once you have done this, wipe the hinge down with another paper towel.
Now, to help the WD-40 product work it’s way into the hinge, open and close the door a few times. This will help the formula to reach into all the tiny areas of the hinge that you may have missed.
After this, repeat the same two steps of placing kitchen roll under the hinge and spraying on the WD-40 Multi-Use Product, but do so on the the other hinges this time. We want to ensure that your door is squeak-free! Therefore, we recommend treating both the hinges. Again, give the hinge a wipe down when you’re satisfied to remove excess product.
Now, you can test your door. Open and close the door again to allow product to trickle into all the areas of the hinge. When doing this, you should now recognise your door is no longer squeaking!
